Shiney Row Male Voice Choir produced a DVD to celebrate their Golden Jubilee in 2009.
The production of a DVD was first suggested in 2006 and was finally made possible due to a Grant from the National Lottery's 'Awards for All' Programme.
It is an attempt to pull together some memories of the Choir and the people who have played key roles in its organisation and development. Unfortunately, the production team were unable to find any film of the very early days, but they managed to record some of the memories of long-standing members and their families, as well as some memorabilia, photos and films of members and guests from years gone by.
The Choir has made recordings over the years, has featured on television, and on radio many times with excerpts from an LP made in 1975 and from a later 1979 LP, 'Pleasure in Singing'. In 1999 the Choir recorded their first CD, 'Rejoice in Singing' (the Choir motto is 'Gaudeamus Canentes' or 'We Rejoice in Singing'), in 2002 a further CD recording was produced, 'On Stage In Song', and towards the end of 2008 (within the year of Golden Jubilee celebrations) recorded the latest CD 'Shiney Gold'.
The Choir has been an active member of the National Association of Choirs, and over the years has played an important role in the community within Shiney Row, Sunderland and the wider Northeast, performing many concerts every year for a variety of organisations and helping to raise thousands of pounds for charities.
We hope that people who watch the DVD will enjoy being reminded of the activities and achievements of the Choir and listening to the recollections of some of the members of the Choir.
