Sunderland Male Voice Choir is a friendly community choir, which has been promoting the benefits of male voice singing for over 60 years.
The choir originally adopted the Latin ‘motto’, ‘Gaudeamus Canentas’ (We Rejoice in Singing), as the members do not just get personal pleasure from singing but enjoy and take pride in entertaining the many and varied audiences within the community and at prestigious events.
The 'motto' and associated logo have been retained for the new Sunderland Male Voice Choir as the choir aims to be more inclusive of all communities in the Sunderland region and beyond. The logo recognises the major postal code of Sunderland, 'SR'.
We are always keen to strengthen the choir and will consider suitable new members at any time. The choir is always interested in hearing from anyone who may be interested in joining a great bunch of guys.
Tenors are always in high demand as all choirs know. Whether you are tenor, baritone or bass we would love to hear from you.
As a friendly group of 'nonprofessional' like-minded singers, we consider ourselves approachable should you decide to apply for membership.
Our musical repertoire is varied, entertaining and regularly updated and, although the Choir does not enter competitions, we take pride in our performances and constantly strive to sing well. To achieve this, the choir normally rehearses each Friday evening between 7.00pm and 9.00pm at St. Chad’s C of E Church Community Hall, Charter Drive/Durham Road, East Herrington, Sunderland, SR3 3PG.
To join you do not have to be able to read music or have previous experience of singing in a choir. What we are looking for is your enjoyment of singing and eagerness to join and sing with us.
If you like singing, are male, and are interested in becoming a member of Sunderland Male Voice Choir, then please complete the Join the Choir form below, with as much information as possible.
