'We're Going on a Randy' is the new song created by Sunderland Male Voice Choir and commissioned by The Cultural Spring.
This unique song has been created by tenor and deputy musical director of the Choir, Sam Jordan.
The chorus, which will be performed by Sunderland Male Voice Choir as 'navvies', describes the difficult and dangerous roles of the workmen but their respect for George Stephenson.
Each of the verses, which will be performed by different lines of the Choir, will introduce George Stephenson's role in The Hetton Colliery Railway, the high death rate in the Woodhead tunnels, Stephenson's illiteracy and inventions, and the impact of their work on the landscape.
Sunderland Male Voice Choir started rehearsing 'We're Going on a Randy' on Friday, 2nd September 2022 and it will be premiered at Hetton Methodist Church on Friday, 4th November 2022.
